It seems unnecessary to a lot of us to give heartworm preventative to our pets in the winter, but it’s not! Mosquitoes can be active throughout the year – even in the winter. This is especially true with the warm weather we can have here in NC! So make sure to give all your pets a prescription heartworm preventative year-round. This applies even to indoor cats – as mosquitoes can get inside through open doors, and unfortunately, heartworm is always fatal in cats (so don’t forget them!).
